Your Actions Control Your Happiness

leave a comment »

EVERYBODY HAS PUT FORTH SOME FACTS, BUT YOUR OPINIONS ARE BIASED BY YOUR OWN BELIEFS. OPINIONS NEVER SOLVED ANYTHING.

MOST PEOPLE WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, MOST OF THE TIME THEY EXPECT THE GOVERNMENT TO DO IT. THE TROUBLE IS THE GOVERNMENT RARELY SOLVES ANY PROBLEM.

VOTERS ARE ALL PART OF MOST PEOPLE.

EVERYBODY ALWAYS WANTS SOMETHING FOR FREE.

DO NOT FIGHT HUMAN NATURE, YOU WILL NOT WIN.

THEY ARE EITHER NEVER ENOUGH RESOURCES TO GO AROUND OR NEVER THE CORRECT ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES. SOMEONE ALWAYS GETS LITTLE OR NONE. THIS WILL NEVER CHANGE, ACCEPT IT.

WHAT IS GOOD OR NICE AND WHAT WILL WORK ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

TO CLARIFY VANGEL: ALL HAPPINESS THAT RELATES TO ECONOMIC WELL-BEING AND MANY OTHERS IS CONTROLLED BY YOUR OWN ACTIONS. YOU CAN BEAT THE SYSTEM NO MATTER WHAT IT IS. SOMEONE IS ALWAYS DOING IT, WHETHER A COMMUNIST, SOCIALIST, CAPITALIST, MERCANTIL, OR WHATEVER SOCIETY.

ANY TYPE OF GOVERNMENT IS USUALLY A HINDRANCE TO HAPPINESS, SOME MORE THAN OTHERS.

NEVER BELIEVE THAT ANY CLASS DESERVES ANY OR MORE OF ANY ECONOMIC BENEFIT.

USUALLY TAKING FROM ONE ECONOMIC CLASS OR SOCIETAL GROUP BY THE GOVERNMENT IS JUST A FORM OF LEGALIZED ARMED ROBBERY.

END OF THE LESSON.

If you are unhappy or things in your life are not as you want them, it is up to YOU to do something about it.  No one cares about you!  Accept it!

YOUR BELIEFS ARE WRONG!

FOUND ON THE INTERNET

THAT CONFIRMS IT—

Bill Clinton’s White house suffered from what staffers referred to as “bimbo eruptions”: young women who claimed to have had past sexual relations with the President. To Clinton’s supporters, these eruptions were dismissed as irrelevant distractions from the important work of his presidency; to his opponents, these events were indicative of the moral darkness that lay at the heart his government. Those who believe in an omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent God rationalize or dismiss natural disasters which kill ten of thousands, while non-believers see these events as evidence that such a God does not exist. A racist who believes Chinese are superior points to all of those successful Chinese and ignores the bums, drug addicts and criminals; a racist who thinks Blacks are inferior points to the bums, drug addicts and criminals while ignoring all of the success stories.

What goes on here, and elsewhere in our lives, is what is known as “confirmation bias.” We have evolved to pay attention to evidence that supports beliefs we hold and to ignore, dismiss, or rationalize away evidence that undermines those beliefs. And this phenomenon is not only found among our duller brethren. There are intelligent people who believe strongly in UFOs, homeopathy, creationism, and that the Giants have a chance at the pennant.
Confirmation bias probably arose in our evolutionary environment because we lived with a small group of people who we knew by name and saw everyday, in a physical environment that didn’t change much from year to year. If we observe that Ug is a bully, given the stability of behavior, we expect that Ug will act like a bully in the future (and his being nice now doesn’t change our opinion). If we observe that game animals come down to the water hole at dusk, given the stability of nature, we expect them to come to the waterhole tomorrow as well. Given the stability of our ancestral environment, confirmatory bias, while perhaps not perfect (it is possible, of course, to be mistaken), was good enough.

However, our greatest intellectual achievement—modern science—is possible only because we thought of a way to overcome confirmation bias. A scientist doesn’t seek an experiment which will confirm the truth of his hypothesis and he doesn’t dismiss evidence that his hypothesis is false. He actively seeks an experiment which will show its falsity. The scientist tries to disprove his hypothesis in a methodology first given detailed elucidation by Karl Popper. But this is not the way we evolved to think. We must learn to think scientifically (just as we must learn to think logically). But given our evolved mental machinery, thinking scientifically is an unnatural intellectual act.
And given the number of people who seem incapable of thinking logically or scientifically, it is not a very common act at that.

END

People believe what they want to believe.

This is very, very stupid.  It could even be considered evil.

People continue to ignore facts they do not agree with.  They are living in a make believe world, a world created in their own minds.

No one can solve a problem turning a blind eye to the facts, which is what most people do.

Is This Your Life?

with one comment

FOUND ON THE INTERNET

You wake up.  For one brief moment, after you rub the sleepiness from your eyes, you smile at the thought of a new day.

But then reality hits you.  Your mind jumps from worry to worry.  There are bills to pay, deadlines to meet, and conflicts to solve.  Suddenly, you feel like the day has already spun out of control, even though you haven’t climbed out of bed yet.

Ten minutes later (you hit the snooze button), you start a battle against the clock that you never seem to win.  The race won’t end until you slump into bed (forty-five minutes later than planned, of course) that night.

After you get up, you start going through the motions: get in the car, you endure the commute that gnaws at your soul, then you get to work and try to tackle the most important matters. But time vampires and busy work consume your day.

Fueled by caffeine you make it to lunch, where things only get worse as you inhale a meal of sugar, salt and fat at your desk.

Time seems to simultaneously speed up and slow down each afternoon.  Your co-worker’s problems comically become your three-alarm emergencies while irrelevant meetings drag on forever. Time literally seems to stall when you check the clock in anticipation of returning to the sanctuary of your home.

Doesn’t it seem like there just isn’t enough of anything in your day?  Time. Money. Energy. Love.

Frustration weighs on you.  It gets worse as the day goes on and piles up during the week.  Even your beloved weekends barely give you reprieve.  Instead, you struggle to use your time off to catch up menial errands as you try to keep your head above water.

Is this your life?

It wasn’t supposed to be like this, was it?

We plan. God laughs.

We all start out young and hopeful, but who among us has really achieved their dreams?

Why do people fail?

Why do people get distracted?

Why do people get off track?

But there is hope.

The good news is our blogs CAN help.

Politicians and the government will continue to make it worse and provide no relief.

Good News — Bad News

leave a comment »

People go through each day looking for Good News.  No one wants to hear Bad News.  How stupid they are!

Good News usually has little value.  It is Bad News that is important.

Bad News gives you the information you NEED; Good News does not.

The information provided by Bad News will warn you of dangers, obstacles and pitfalls in your path.  This lets you know to take the necessary action(s).

But people still kill messengers that bring them Bad News.

Their ego and pride are more important than results.

So, the day comes when you are lying in the street, dying from the truck that hit you; and you whine, why did no one warn me?
