All problems can be solved.

Assumptions in Problem Solving

leave a comment »

Many things in the world are based upon “assumptions”.

Assumptions are things that are accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.

The key phrase is “without proof”.

“Without proof” means there is NO proof these assumptions are correct.

Assumptions are often used in problem solving.

Most would-be problem solvers use assumptions casually; without any thought.

Just make them up as they work on the problem.

This does not work.

The solution is not the best or most likely makes the problem worse.

Assumptions must be used with the greatest of care:

—  the fewer assumptions used, the better

—  any assumptions used should be based upon as much FACT as possible

People like using assumptions because it is easy and they can get the result they want.

This does NOT solve any problems.

The facts no one wants to read.

Comments and referrals to this blog would be greatly appreciated.
