Cause of All Problems

leave a comment »

Stupidity and/or Evil.

Aided and abetted by ignoring facts and fuzzy thinking.

Simple as ABC!

Fix stupid.

Destroy evil.

Learn the facts and remember them.

Work on analyzing and quit believing in a fictional world.

Stop feeling you are the center of the universe.

Strive for maturity.

The facts no one wants to read.

If the facts make you mad, it could be the truth hurts.

People Hate Truth/Reality

leave a comment »

Why?

People believe what they want to believe.

This is a character flaw.  It is also stupid.

But everybody does it.  Well, almost everybody.

But why?

Several reasons.  They

—  are afraid of the truth/reality

—  like living in a dream world

—  want the world to be like it is in their mind

—  can believe they matter; are important

—  believe they are smart

It is really all the same reason.

Pretend they are above average, superior even.

Protect their ego.

Try to forget that they are not important.

Your Bias Makes You Stupid

leave a comment »

People all think of themselves as being rational.  They hear evidence and process it.  What is clear from decades of social psychological research is that people’s motivations get involved in their reasoning. Those shape and bias the way they process information.

It is not that people believe anything they want to believe. People still think and need rationale.  But the things they feel change what they count as evidence.

The concept of “motivated reasoning” refers to the tendency of people to rationalize on behalf of outcomes they want to see.

Something similar — motivated skepticism.

People tend to be a lot more skeptical of information they do not want to believe than information they do want to believe. People tend to just scoop up information they want to believe and then are much more skeptical and allocate their skepticism in a biased way.

This compounds over time, so people compile evidence that supports their view and critically dismiss that which does not, so that the evidence on their side eventually seems overwhelming.

Notice a multiplier effect: emotion.

The more passionate people are, the more morally convinced they are about the issue, the more they care about that in various other ways, the more biased they’re likely to be.

REALITY AND TRUTH

leave a comment »

Reality is nothing more than the truth.

FACTS!

Not opinion(s).

Robert Ringer wrote:

Baltasar Gracian, the insightful and pragmatic 17th century Jesuit priest, cautioned, “Truth is abhorred by the masses.”  Instead, they try to make true that which they love — a self-delusive practice that virtually guarantees frustration and failure.

Unfortunately, most people live in an unreal world; i.e., they create a world in their own minds based on the way they would like it to be rather than the way it actually is.  They seem to have adopted the philosophy of humorist/author Ashleigh Brilliant, who once remarked, “I have abandoned the search for truth, and am now looking for a good fantasy.”

END

This is a major cause of problems in the world:

  —  People wanting fantasies, things that will never come true.

  —  People thinking that their “opinions” are reality, but are just drivel(stupid thoughts).

  —  Individuals’ fixation on what they want; what they want is NOT important except to them.

  —  The public believing that society recognized leaders will do the world any good: politicians, government officials, international organization officials(UN, IMF, Catholic Church), athletes, entertainers, and even religious leaders.

So, forget what you want to hear and listen for cold, hard, sharp, nasty truths.

Using intellegience(in very short supply) to analyze FACTS solves problems(which improves the world and your quality of life).

Look for intelligent, honorable managers to be in charge.
